The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is coming into force in the UK in May 2018 and it is important that you understand your legal obligations as a museum. This session, developed in association with NKCC, has been specifically designed for Axiell users and will explore the relationship between Axiell systems and your broader organisational requirements under GDPR. It will explore:

  • What is data protection, what is its scope and what will the impact of GDPR have on your organisation?
  • What type of personal data are you likely to encounter as part of your interaction with cultural content and on what grounds can you legally process it?
  • What is the role of Axiell's systems in helping you comply with GDPR within your broader responsibilities?
  • How can you use Axiell systems to store, rectify and delete personal data?
  • How can Axiell systems be used to record consent?
  • How can Axiell systems be used to provide added security to the safety of personal data you are holding?

This practical workshop will use interactive sessions and group work to engage participants and enable questions and discussions.  

You'll also benefit from networking with your peers to see how they are meeting the challenges of GDPR.

The half-day session will take place at the Axiell office in Nottingham.

Speakers

Naomi Korn
Founder and Managing Director of NKCC, Lead Consultant

Naomi Korn is one of the leading UK experts in copyright, compliance, rights and licensing. Naomi is the former Chair, Libraries and Archives Copyright Alliance (LACA) from 2013 – 2017. During this period, she led the reform of the UK’s copyright laws on behalf of the cultural heritage sector, which resulted in new UK exceptions to copyright in 2014. She has also regularly represented the interests of the sector to UK Government Ministers and she regularly sits on Government advisory groups. From 2015-17, Naomi was a Trustee of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professional (CILIP), the second largest professional organisation for librarians in the world. Since 2012 Naomi has set the program and chaired the CILIP annual Copyright Conference. Naomi recently travelled to China for the British Council lecturing on copyright at the UK-China conference for Commercial Enterprise and Copyright Protection. Naomi is a visiting lecturer at City University, University College London and Kingston University. In November 2017, Naomi was appointed a CREATe Industry Fellow. Naomi established NKCC in 2003, after having overseen copyright at the Tate from 2000 – 2003.
